“A son of a poor man is standing in front of you today. This is the strength of Democracy.”
“The inspiration itself, Narendra Damodar Das Modi, proves that everything is possible in this world if you have a firm determination to do that. He is the A chai wala is running the biggest democracy “India”, just because of his determination to his work, his loyalty , his inner desires to serve the nation led his way.” And now, a six year old child who sold tea with his father as Vadnagar Railway Station, is now a Prime Minister of India.
Birth and Early Childhood
Narendra Modi was born on September 15, 1950, in a middle class family to Damodardad Mulchand Modi and Smt. Heeraben in Vadnagar,Mehsana district in gujarat. Narendra’s father was a street merchant who struggled to alot to feed his family.
Narendra modi at a very young age used to sell tea with his elder brother at bus terminals to help his father in feeding the whole family.
Narendra modi joined RSS in a very early age. He continued to sell tea till he become a full time member in RSS. He used to attend “Shakhas” regularly. RSS and serving nation is not a cup of tea for all. Narendra modi had the desire and hence succeeded also. His hardwork is in front of all.
Modi was an average in studies but was a very good debater. He spent most of his time in library. Modi’s childhood is not so attracting rather than his joining of RSS, which really helped him grow in political terms.
During the emergence declared by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1955-57, it lead to banning of political organisation, RSS. After which modi disappeared and wrote a book Sangharsh ma Gujarat ( Gujarat in emergence) depicting his feelings as a political person.
Modi grew in a small town in northern Gujarat. In 1978, Modi completed his graduation in political science from Delhi university and M.A(political Science) from Gujarat University, Allahabad in 1983. Modi joined pro-hindu Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh organisation in early 1970’s and set up a unit of RSS’s wing the Akhli Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad in his area.
Modi got married at a very early age of 18. He lived very little with his wife and finally ended such marriage and dedicated his whole life to nation and politics, joining RSS in 1971.
Modi joined BJP( Bhartiya Janta party) in 1987. In 1986, he helped a party in winning Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation elections, in which his work was really appreciated. And within 2 years modi became the organising secretary of Gujarat BJP. Modi was one of the BJP members who participated in coalition government in state. He helped BJP to win elections in march,1995 that made part the first ever BJP controlled government in India. But control was short lived as it ended in September 1996. Modi successfully campaigned for making BJP as the ruling party of Gujarat state in 1998.
Narendra modi successfully organized and carried out two challenging events with famous BJP leaders:
1.) Somnath to Ayodhya Rath Yatra by L.K advani and 2 others.
2.) March from Kanyakumari to Kashmir led by Murli Manohar Joshi.
These two marches really helped BJP to come in power in 1998. The same year Modi was promoted as general secretary as retained that position till October 2001. In 2001 on October 7, Narendra Modi became the Chief Minister of the state Gujarat. AS a chief minister, Modi laid emphasis on privatisation of small scale industries.
A communal violence was done in Godhra where 58 hindu pilgrimages were slaughtered. The results of such a violence resulted in anti-muslim violence which took whole Gujarat in it cover. 900 to 2000 deaths were enrolled in that violence. To stop such a situation, modi announced curfews in many cities of Gujarat. In 2009, Supreme court fount SIT to check what work did government did to help the people out there and t find the people responsible for such violence. Later on in 2010, it was proved that no evidence was found against Narendra Modi. Because of such violence, Modi was denied to provide visa for The United States of America and United Kingdom.
In 2004, there was a case in which three men and a women were killed as they were planning to kill Narendra Modi.
Besides so many problems, narendra grabbed victory in 2002 legislative assembly elections by securing 127 of 182 seats. Due so much progress modi made in Gujarat , he again succeeded in winning elections in 2007 by 117 seats. His consistent growth and truthfulness proved him once again in 2012 elections in which he again became the chief minister of Gujarat, securing 115 seats.
During the progress of Gujarat, modi had already proved himself as a perfect leader and most eligible candidate for the seat of Prime minister of India. The remarkable Progress of Gujarat clearly shows the efforts done by Narendra Modi in his political lifetime.
Then in 2013, he was elected as the leader of BJP’s campaign for 2014 Lok sabha elections.
Modi campaigned hard to prove everyone that he is the most reliable candidate for india’s Prime minister. His hard work worked as he grabbed 282 of 534 lok sabha seats and set a by winning the elections by grabbing maximum number seats. His remarkable success defeated the Indian National congress who was leading India from past 60 years.
Now Narendra modi, from the day he has become prime minister of India, launched many movements like:
