Make Pen Drive Bootable for Windows 7


Do not have a computer CD/DVD drive? And you require urgent repairing or installing the Windows 7 operating system on your PC? So, there are two method- either you take somebody’s CD/DVD writer for a day and attach it to your computer or you can follow the below method to make pen drive bootable for Windows 7.

Well taking someone’s CD/DVD writer is highly neglected by us. So, to making your pen drive bootable is the only choice left to you. So, what will be the use of making pen drive bootable for Windows 7 ? This will mean that if you have USB port attached to your system, you will thus be able to install Windows 7 on your PC without any requirement of CD/DVD.

The people, who do not like carrying a CD or DVD, every time when they require installing windows 7 on their PCs, bootable pen drive can be a better and portable option. So, why not learn to make pen drive bootable for Windows 7!
I have provided you a very simple guide to make pen drive bootable. But first look at the minimum requirements of the process.

PART 1- Requirements to make Pen Drive Bootable for Windows 7

Minimum 8GB pen drive should be with you. Less than 8 GB pen drives cause errors most of the times.
To make Pen drive bootable for Windows 7, you will need another system (can be of your friend’s or any other source).
You need an ISO image file of Windows 7 before the procedure. If you have an ISO image file, then there will be no need of the step 2. ISO image is important to make pen drive bootable.
You will also require a Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to execute and give the final touch of the operation.

PART 2 – Arrangement of ISO image file of Windows 7 to make Pen Drive bootable

ISO file of Windows 7 is available online, which should be downloaded first. Yu need a good internet connection to download the ISO file as the file is in range of 2.30 GB to 2.50 GB. Where to download? I have given the below two links to download 32 and 64 bits ISO images respectively.

PART 3 – Make USB Pen Drive bootable for Windows 7 using USB/DVD Download Tool

Before starting for the part 3, make sure that you have gone through the part 1 and part 2. And finally you have a 8 GB pen drive and an ISO image file of Windows 7.


STEP 1 – Download Windows 7 USB/DVD tool

Now you need to download Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool. Clicking on the link, will directly ask you to download and save file as below. NOTE: I have IDM to install files. So, IDM popped up when I opened up the link.
Click on the Start Download option in the above picture and then wait for the below window to appear, which says you to open the downloaded file. Click on open button.2

STEP 2 – Install Windows 7 USB/DVD download Tool

So, clicking on Open, will launch a new window of Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool Setup as shown in the below image.
Click on the Next button (in the above image) and then Install button in the next window as shown below:
It will take some time to install and then click on finish button on the final window to end the installation process.

STEP 3 – Using USB/ DVD tool to make Pen Drive bootable

The very first step is to insert a pen drive to your PC/laptop which is to be made bootable for Windows 7.12
Now since you have already installed the software, you need to run the software from the path: Start>All Programs>Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool. Below image will appear in front of you.
Choose the ISO image file by browsing through the Windows Explorer. And then click open and then Next  to move to the 2/4 step.
The below is the 2/4 step. You need to select USB Device and then click on Start Over button.
Then you enter the 3/4 step, where you will be prompted to choose the USB device. Click on Begin Copying to make the respective pen drive bootable for Windows 7.
Step 4/4 will be just showing the status of the copying of the files to the USB pen drive. It would take around 30-40 minutes for this process to occur completely.
So, these are the steps in details, to make pen drive bootable for Windows 7, using the USB/DVD tool of Windows 7. Now you can use your bootable pen drive anytime and anywhere to install Windows 7 to your system.
